No Soliciting Sign

We have a terrible problem with solicitors in our neighborhood!  At least once a week someone would ring our door bell, it was really annoying.  I wanted a no soliciting sign, but of course I didn't want one of those generic kind you buy at the store.  It had to be pretty! :)

So over the summer I made this sign to go with my Lima bean wreath (I posted about the wreath a long time ago here).  Lima bean wreath has gone through many changes.  Green, black, I think it was orange, I don't know I lost track!  This summer I just said why not put every color I have on there! lol  This will probably be its last leg though, its not looking too good anymore, every time I touch it, another bean falls off.  He lived a good life though ;)
So, anyway back to the sign.. It has worked like a charm! No more solicitors after I put this thing up! A couple of weeks ago I put up my OU Wreath so I had to take my sign down. it didn't match duh! ;) And wouldn't you know some one actually came by to sell us a new mailbox! sheesh!
Time for a new sign!
Here's what I did.

Supplies needed:
2 sizes wood plaque. Hobby Lobby has lots of sizes and shapes in the unfinished wood section.  They are all under $1.50 too!
Scrapbook paper
glue
spray paint
twine or yarn to hang

I just used my original sign by taking off the front plaque and the scrapbook paper.
1.  Spray paint edges of larger wood piece
2. Make an outline of the shape by putting your paper on top and running your finger along the edge to make a crease.  (this is just my way, you may think of another way to trace your shape)
3. You can kind of see how the crease makes a guideline for your shape.
4. Cut along the crease you made and glue to plaque!

Once the paper was glued on, I used Gorilla Glue to add the sign to the larger plaque and stapled twine to the back for hanging. I used my silhouette machine for the words, but Hob Lob sells all kinds of letters that can be used.
SO SIMPLE and I think the solicitors will get the hint! :)

Ombre

I've always loved the way something looks where one color fades into lighter shades. I never knew this was called ombre until this week, thank you Pinterest for making me smarter.  So now I know, and I love ombre! :)  Here are some goodies I found...

Tomatoes! This is the first year of my life that I have liked tomatoes, weird huh? lol  I've really been missing out these last 28 years :)

This brings us to the real reason for the post. OK what I really want to try, Ombre hair! I don't know why I love it so much, I'm always wanting to do something different, but nothing too extreme, so I think this will be a fun change! We'll see if I can pull it off. :)

GAH! If only my hair was so long.

Wedding Shower

I love planning showers or birthday parties. I could do it everyday! One of my best friends is getting married in October and a few weekends ago the four of us bridesmaids threw her a shower! Here are a few DIY details we put together.
&<span class=
This welcome sign was made with a frame from the thrift store I sprayed purple.  The triangles are scrapbook paper and I used my handy silhouette machine for the letters, then just glued the triangles onto yarn to tie across.  The flowers are made of felt.  I think the total for this sign was under $5! Oh yeah! I love how it turned out!

We hung up old pictures of the bride and groom and had everyone guess their ages.  It was fun seeing their cute baby pictures!

The Maid of Honor, Alli, and I made the cake. This was actually one of the simplest cakes I have made. We just textured regular butter cream icing with a spatula and another cake tool that made the lines. It took lots of icing! But, if we didn't like how it looked we could smooth it out and start over. With the fresh flowers, so pretty!

I got a couple of cardboard J's from the unfinished wood section at Hobby Lobby and wrapped them in yarn. LOVE! :) I love the warm and cozy feeling yarn gives off. Then there is the purple and green kettle corn party favors. My girl Jennie did these and they were so good! She and Katy did all the food which was awesome as well.

These pinwheels were one of the delicious things they made, the mix of the salty kalamata and the sweet tomato was an explosion of flavor! I may have had more than a few. a lot more ;)

1 container (8oz) garlic and herb whipped cream cheese
1 container (4oz) crumbled feta cheese
1/3 cup finely chopped cucumber
6 flour tortillas for burritos, 8 inch
1/3 cup pitted kalamata olives, coarsely chopped
3 small (Roma) tomatoes, chopped (about 1 1/2 cup)
3 cups baby spinach leaves

Directions:
In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and feta cheese with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Stir in Cucumber.
Place tortillas on microwavable plate or paper towel; microwave uncovered on high 10 - 15 seconds to soften. Spread about 1/4 cup cheese mixture on each tortilla. Top evenly with olives and tomatoes. Arrange 1/2 cup spinach on each tortilla to within 1/2 inch of edge. Roll up tightly wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate 2-3 hours to blend flavors.
Trim ends of rolled tortillas if desired. Cut each roll into 8 1 inch slices. Arrange with cut side down on serving dish.
Each pinwheel = 45 calories

Great Success!

It doesn't take much to put a little extra love into the details, it certainly makes things more special :)

Falling for Fall

I. Love. Fall. it is my favorite season, my birthday is in the fall, the air is cool, the sun is bright, the colors are warm. I just love it so much! It is finally feeling a little fall'ish in Oklahoma right now and it couldn't make me happier. Here are some fall things I found on Pinterest that made me say "oooh", "GAH", and "yes!" lol :)

These are Black Bottom (Oreo) Carmel Pumpkin Cheesecake Bites. Say what?! Family, you will probably see these at Thanksgiving! :)

I think food in individual jars are adorable! These would be cute for a neighbor or a teacher.

Chicken Taco Chili... YUM

This outfit looks so comfy and simple, my boots are just waiting to be put on!
